The LoFric Catheter: Overview of Clinical Studies

چکیده
No urethral complications were found to have occurred in any of the 30 patients. No surgeries were required, and no incidents of false passages, meatitis or meatal stenosis were detected. Two patients experienced epidydimitis. In four patients who had signs of strictures at the outset of the study from previous use of an indwelling catheter, these signs subsided once CIC using LoFric was initiated. In addition, 12 patients (40%) maintained sterile urine during the entire follow-up period. CIC for more than five years. This retrospective study was conducted to investigate whether use of the LoFric catheter helped reduce the incidence of catheterization-related urethral complications, particularly in the long-term.

Hydrophilic-coated catheters for intermittent catheterisation reduce urethral micro trauma: a prospective, randomised, participant-blinded, crossover study of three different types of catheters.
OBJECTIVE To compare two hydrophilic-coated (SpeediCath and LoFric and one uncoated gel-lubricated catheter (InCare Advance Plus) concerning withdrawal friction force and urethral micro trauma. METHODS 49 healthy male volunteers participated in this prospective, randomised, blinded, crossover study of three different bladder catheters. The withdrawal friction force was measured, and urine ana...
متن کاملEvaluation of a new PVC-free catheter material for intermittent catheterization: A prospective, randomized, crossover study
OBJECTIVE Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is commonly used as a catheter material in catheters for clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) but, owing mainly to environmental concerns, a PVC-free material has been proposed. The objective of this study was to compare patients' tolerability for catheters made of PVC and a newly developed PVC-free material. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a prospective, ...
متن کاملA prospective randomized trial of the LoFric hydrophilic coated catheter versus conventional plastic catheter for clean intermittent catheterization.
PURPOSE We compared the incidence of hematuria, pyuria and clinical urinary tract infection in patients who performed intermittent self-catheterization using a hydrophilic coated LoFric (Astra Tech AB, Mölndal, Sweden) or standard plastic catheter. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 62 male patients who performed intermittent self-catheterization to manage neurogenic bladder were randomized int...
متن کاملThe Role of Stem Cell Therapy in Multiple Sclerosis: an Overview of the Current Status of the Clinical Studies
The complexity of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the incompetence of a large number of promise treatments in MS urge us to plan new and more effective therapeutic approaches that aim to suppress ongoing autoimmune responses and induction of local endogenous regeneration. Emerging data propose that hematopoietic, mesenchymal and neural stem cells have the potential to restore self-tolerance, to pro...
